I am a trained metalsmith who takes her inspiration from nature and all of the beauty around us. I work mostly in silver and gemstones in the form that they come from the earth rather than cut and faceted stones. Everything that I make is 100% handmade from the cutting of the stones down to the clasp or the earrwire. For me, "made from scratch" whether that be home cooking, DIY home and holiday design, my jewelry or handmade crafts from other skilled artisans shows not only a quality that can't be found in mass produced items, but an extra degree of love. When I take the time to make whatever it is from scratch, or to buy from others who do, I am sharing with you my time, skill and love.
When I was 7 years old, we lived in Granada, Spain in an old house that had wonderful Moroccan architecture and had one of the tunnels that had originally been used to sneak provisions into the Alhambra during the siege. The owner of the home was a famous jewelry designer in Spain, and I used to sit quietly for hours watching her create. She would let me play with little scraps and make things of my own.
30 years and countless life experiences later, I get to spend my days doing what I love, creating one of a kind artisan jewelry, handcrafted from start to finish in my beautiful new 800 sq foot studio...the little red barn.
I guess if I were to be honest, I design for myself. If I'm going to Santa Fe soon to catch my brother in a show at the opera, I am probably working with turquoise and silver, if I have a board meeting or a fund raiser coming up, it is probably something simple and classic with clean lines and quality stones... but maybe with a little modern or bohemian twist.
